The Foundation Of God’s Word Will Carry Us Through Every Storm

The Foundation Of God’s Word Impacted My Life

Twenty-seven years ago I came face to face with the power and authority of God’s Word for the first time. At the time I was not walking with the Lord and not very interested in walking with the Lord. However, God still pursued me and sent one of His beloved daughters to speak His Word to me.

This precious woman asked me about my life growing up, and if my background in anyway connected to the Lord. I told her my parents made me go to church every Sunday morning and night, on Wednesday nights, and any other time the church doors opened.  I also told her that I saw things in church that turned me away from the church and the Lord. She seemed delighted and excited which I thought was quite unusual.

She told me that since I had been raised with the foundation of Jesus throughout my young life that I would come back to the Lord based on the truth and authority of God’s Word.  She quoted Proverbs 22:6:

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

The best way I can describe my experience is that those words went into my ears, down into my inner depths and began to roll over and over inside of me. I could not block those words from my mind. I heard them, even felt them, until three weeks later I went to church for the first time in years that wasn’t on Christmas or Easter. I wanted to be there because I felt drawn, even compelled, by something unexplainable to me at the time.

God’s Love

Now I know it was the power and authority of God’s word. The drawing and calling of His Holy Spirit and God’s great love.

We love Him because He first loved us.

1 John 4:19

I once thought this was where my journey with Jesus began, but I was wrong. My journey with Jesus began long before my “Yes Lord” at thirty years old. My journey began with a foundation laid by parents who loved Jesus, loved each other, and loved me. What a gift they gave me, even though I did not understand the value of the gift until many years later.

The Value of the Foundation

That foundation my parents laid, one woman’s faith in the authority and effectiveness of God’s word, and God’s word spoken to me converged in one moment in time twenty-seven years ago. His love and truth overtook me. My life has never been the same. The foundation of God’s Word and transforming power of Jesus Christ impacted my life both then and now.

Throughout my adult life, I discovered the pricelessness of foundation. I now believe that foundation may be the most important element in our lives, Jesus taught His disciples about the value of the foundation of God’s Word, especially in light of the inevitable storms passing through every human life.

Foundation For Solid Footing

Jesus, the Divine carpenter told a parable of two builders in Matthew 7:24-29 with instructive, essential, life-building words.

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,

I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:

and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and

beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Matthew 7:24-25

Then Jesus contrasted the wise man’s actions with the foolish man’s actions.

But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them,

will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:

and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew

and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

Matthew 7:26-27

Jesus gave us a picture of two builders, a wise builder and a foolish builder and the storms of life came to both. Storms come in this life no matter if we know Jesus or not.

Similarities And Contrasts Between The Wise And Foolish:

The wise man built his house on the rock.

The foolish built his house on the sand.

The wise man heard and did what God said.

The foolish man heard and did not do what God said.

Storms and floods descended on the wise man’s house, yet it did not fall.

Storms and floods descended on the foolish man’s house, and great was its fall.

Let’s zero in on the wise man’s foundation. The Rock. The storms came and the wise man’s house did not fall because, it was founded on the rock

King David repeatedly identified God as his Rock.

·      2 Samuel 22:2 - "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

·      2 Samuel 22:32 – For who is God except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?

·      2 Samuel 22:47 –"The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let God be exalted, The Rock of  my salvation!

·      Psalm 18:46 -  The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock!

·      Psalm 28:1 To You I will cry, O Lord my Rock:

·      Psalm 31:3 - For You are my rock and my fortress;

·      Psalm 42:9 – I will say to God my Rock

·      Psalm 62:2 and 6 -  He only is my rock and my salvation;

David built his life on the foundation of the Lord. So when the battle and storms came, his life stood because it was founded on the Rock.

Founded (as used in Matthew 7:25) in the original Greek language means to lay the foundation, to make stable, or establish. The root word means the foundation of a building, wall, city, or metaphorically it means the first principals of a system of truth.

God’s Word Works Today

To withstand the storms of life, our life needs to be founded on the first principals of God’s system of truth which is the only unwavering system of truth. If there has ever been a time that we see what we thought could be or should be systems of truth in our world wavering, it is now.

We live in a time, when what we once thought were trustworthy systems of truth, have toppled. Education. Science. Government. Religions, and yes, even the system of Christianity has failed us. I am sure there are more, but you get the picture. The reason each one of these, supposed to be trustworthy systems toppled is because man is at the core of each system. Their foundations were built on sand because of the heart of man.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?
Jeremiah 17:9

Anytime a system is built on or around what a man or woman says, a storm will come along and great will be its fall.  However, if we build our lives on Jesus and His unshakable system of truth, we will weather every storm.

Much Love & Blessings Dear Sister!
