One Way We Help Our Husbands Is By Praying For Our Husbands

Praying for our husbands may be our most important role as a Christian wife. So my question to you is:

“Do you want to be a wife who prays for your husband?”

I believe your answer to my question is “Yes.” I too want to be a wife who prays for my husband.

A few reasons why praying for our husbands is so important:

1)    We all need God’s help in our marriages.

2)    Our husband’s spiritual state affects everything about him and everyone around him.

3)    Our marriages and our husbands are under attack by a real spiritual enemy.

4)    And sometimes our husbands face real-life struggles and we can help them through our prayers.

Those are all valid reasons to elevate praying for your husband as a top priority. However, the reality is that praying for our husbands, can be counter-culture.

Why Prayer is Counter Culture?

We live in a culture where getting advice from social media and Dr. Phil rather than taking our petitions to God is normal. Sometimes it’s easier to pick up the phone and talk to our girlfriend rather than get alone and talk to God. Sometimes we simply opt for the world’s advice because we want to hear what we want to hear.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine,

but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears,

they will heap up for themselves teachers, and they will turn away

their ears from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

2 Timothy 4:3-4

That’s the world we live in, a world full of advice and a world full of whatever advice that we want. But, in taking our desires, our needs, our struggles, and issues with our husbands to God rather than our girlfriends or Google, we gain so much more.

We All Need God’s Help In Our Marriages.

Marriage can be the most rewarding earthly relationship we experience because of the deep emotions connected to our husbands. The problem is that highly emotional relationships can gut punch us when there are struggles between us. And, as much as I would like to say marriage is a fairy tale, I would be telling a tall tale. Marriage is sometimes hard, and as I said in my blog post, Biblical Marriage, Loving Our Husbands, And Lessons I learned Along The Way, “Marriage takes work.”

And one way we work on our marriage is through praying for our husbands. When we pray for our husbands, we benefit from our prayers. And of course, our husband and our marriage benefits as well.

Remember That Our Husband’s Spiritual State Affects Everything About Him And Everyone Around Him.

When our husbands have a good relationship with Jesus, we reap the benefits of that relationship. Our marriage will be on a good path and growing stronger when our husbands focus on growing their relationship with Jesus. So, praying for our husbands’ spiritual state is huge, and it is probably the most proactive prayer we can pray for them.

As a wife who wants to see my own husband grow in his relationship with Jesus, with me, and my children, prayer simply makes the most sense.

Our Marriages And Our Husbands Are Under Attack By A Real Spiritual Enemy.

John 10:10 tells us that we have an enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. Our husbands and our marriages are prime targets for his attack. The devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy our marriages and our families.  But 2 Corinthians 10:4 says that we have spiritual weapons to fight this spiritual battle and that these spiritual weapons are not carnal but mighty in God.

  • PRAYER is one of those “mighty in God” spiritual weapons.

When praying for our husband’s spiritual well-being, pray for God to draw him by His great love and for protection from harm and deception from the evil one.

Since we know that there is a spiritual enemy who seeks to devour and destroy those we love, our marriages, and our families, prayer is the only thing that makes sense.

Sometimes Our Husbands Face Real-Life Struggles And We Can Help Them By Our Prayers.

Praying for our husbands may look different in different seasons of life. But we know they face many difficulties and temptations in this world. Knowing that, why would we not pray for him?

When we pray, ask God to be at work in their struggles because God’s change isn’t temporary. If we pray for our husband, we can know that God is working in his life. When we try to change a situation or person, we may find a temporary fix, but in the long run, it fails. However, when God brings about change, it lasts.

Here Is A Prayer Guide For You To Use When Praying For Your Husband:

First, thank God for your husband.

Second, pray for his spiritual protection and well-being.

  • If our husband has a good relationship with Jesus, everyone benefits, and our marriage benefits.

Third, pray for his work and his job.

  •  Men normally have a strong connection to their work and their job. Praying for God to establish and bless his work benefits him and the whole family.

Fourth, pray for your marriage relationship.

  •  If there is a specific issue that needs work in your marriage, pray about it, until you see God bring about change.

Finally, I want to finish by giving you a prayer that I pray for my husband. I took it straight from my personal prayer journal and I am sharing it with you. You can download it, print it out, and put it in your prayer journal or Bible to use during your prayer time for your husband.
