God Will Help Me – Do You Believe That?

God Will Help Me – Do You Believe That?

Have you ever wondered if God will help you? Maybe you were confident that God helps other people, but when it comes to believing that God will help you, it’s another story. I have taught people to believe God and to believe that God will help them in various situations, and at the same time, struggled to believe that very thing for myself.

Why do we believe God will help other people but not us?

For many of us, our problem is not with our faith in God’s ability. Most of us believe that God is able.

One of my favorite Old Testament verses is Jeremiah 32:17.

Ah, Lord God! Behold You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm.

There is nothing too hard for You.

Jeremiah 32:17

One of my favorite New Testament verses is Ephesians 3:20.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask

or imagine according to the power that works in us.

Ephesians 3:20

I love these verses because I truly believe that God is able to do anything. I believe He is the healer of the sick and broken, the forgiver of the sinner, the hope for the hopeless, and the helper for those in need.

And when Jesus said, “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26), I believe that.

However, I can believe that all day long in every circumstance when the circumstance belongs to someone else, but when it is my own… sometimes I find my faith falters. What is that?

If our problem isn’t our faith in God’s ability, what is the problem?

I believe the issue lies more with a glitch in our belief or understanding of our identity in Christ. Maybe we don’t really recognize our position in Christ.

What is our position in Christ?

In Christ, we are identified as a beloved child of God, not just a child of God, but a loved one. At least that is what Scripture says and being a Bible teacher, I believe Scripture. Or do I?

I have seen God do great things in my life and other people’s lives. I know He works and I know He is good. I have been changed by God and seen Him turn situations around that have been what could easily be seen as impossible. Yet still, I sometimes struggle with doubt.

Is that struggle an identity crisis or what?

I have seen God work in some specific areas of my life and in the lives of those I love. He answered prayers that I prayed about for a long, long time. And finally, I see God move, change, and progress the situation toward the positive answers to my deepest heart prayers.

That is an amazing thing to experience, but WOW, has this taken a long time! As I thought about the wonder of seeing God work and recognizing His work as answers to a litany of prayers, I thought about my struggles with doubt during the long seasons of praying and seeing nothing.

Maybe the problem was with a lack of patience more than a lack of knowing who I am in Christ. We want everything fast. Or maybe we want everything, AND we want it fast. When I ask my husband to do something for me, I often jokingly tell him that I need him to do it immediately because I really wanted it yesterday.

One thing is for sure, whether it is an identity crisis or a lack of patience, my struggle with doubt is the strongest when I can’t see God answering my prayers.

I guess this is a confession blog post, simply to say, we all struggle at times. We never arrive. As long as we are living in a physical, flesh and blood body, we will have crises of faith, crises of identity, crises of patience, and the list could go on and on.

But the truth is, God will help me and God will help you!

Keep praying and keep pursuing. When you doubt, confess it to Jesus and ask for His help. God will help you! When you wonder if God will do for you the thing you encourage someone else to believe Him for, confess it to Jesus and ask for His help. God will help you! When you are fresh out of patience, and can’t find it in you to keep going, confess it to Jesus and ask for His help. God will help you.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.

He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; and He will also hear their cry and save them.

Psalm 145:18-19

Here are a few Bible verses to pray and meditate on if you find yourself in one of the crises I mentioned today. Ask God to illuminate the truth of these deep into your heart.

  • Just in case you are having a crisis of faith, pray like the man in Mark 9:24, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.”

  • If you are in a crisis of patience and even battling discouragement, use Galatians 6:9 as your daily prayer, asking God to “let us (me) not grow weary while doing good, that in due season you (I) shall reap if you (I) do not lose heart.

  • When our struggle points to an identity crisis, ask God to give you a deep understanding of your position as His beloved child using John 1:12, 1 John 3:1, and Ephesians 1:6.

But as many as received Him,

to them He gave the right to become children of God,

to those who believe in His name.

John 1:12

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us,

that we should be called children of God!

1 John 3:1a

To the praise and glory of His grace,

by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Ephesians 1:6

Dear Sister, if you find yourself in a state of anxiety right now, I want to share my daughter, Taylor Draughn’s FREE Prayers For Anxiety. Taylor’s education, expertise, and experience come from years in counseling. I know you will benefit from what she is giving away in her ebook. Finally, know that I am praying for the women who read this blog post, that God blesses you as you pursue Him and His will and truth in your life!
